At WAY, we strive to provide every requested keyboard language as fast as possible.

Often times, these devices have to be built to order in Germany, where WAY is located.

When you turn on a Mac that was built to order in Germany, it will default to the German system and keyboard language.

Luckily, Apple asks you to select your own system and keyboard language during setup.

Follow this guide to make sure your Mac is running in your expected language, so you don't get lost in translation.

Once you are past the welcome screen, select your preferred language and click on the arrow in the bottom right of the screen.

Next, select your country or region. This defines your date and time, number and currency format. Click on Continue.

This is the step, where Macs love to stick to their originating country. Let's get rid of that unwanted German language. Click on Customise Settings.

Unless you actually speak German, in that case it can be beneficial to have all your spoken languages selected in the Preferred Languages section. It will enable multilingual autocorrect.

You can add all additional languages you speak via the plus symbol. You can remove unwanted languages, like German, by selecting the language and clicking the minus symbol. Once the list includes only the languages you expect, click Continue.

This screen functions like the previous screen. Add the keyboard language you expect via the plus symbol...

...and remove all unwanted languages, like the ABC option, by selecting the unwanted language and clicking the minus symbol. Usually, just one language should be selected here before you click Continue.

Now you can continue through the rest of the Mac's setup steps. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out using the chat icon on the bottom right of this page.

Changing the keyboard language after the setup

If you need to change the keyboard language after the setup was completed, you can follow these steps.

Open System Settings > Keyboard and click on Edit... in the Input Sources section.

Add the keyboard language you expect via the plus symbol, and remove all unwanted languages by selecting the unwanted language and clicking the minus symbol. Usually, just one language should be selected here before you click Done.

Want to get rid of the Input menu in the menu bar? Disable the Show Input menu in menu bar option here.

If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out using the chat icon on the bottom right of this page.
